Founded in 1988, Papa Ola Lokahi is a 501(c)(3) that embodies the holistic approach that brings together mind, body and spirit in the pursuit of optimum health and well-being for Native Hawaiians.
Community Health Initiatives
Through presentations, demonstrations, workshops, kūkākūkā sessions and working closely with kūpuna (elders), POL seeks to improve awareness of and sensitivity to Hawaiian cultural processes and the philosophies of spiritual healing, thus assuring that they are included within the larger health and wellness arena. Whenever possible, POL networks and partners with organizations in the medical communities.
Innovative and Incubated Projects
Ka Pūnana is a safe and nurturing space where innovation and community investment can incubate, from where initiatives can be launched. These programs can grow while contributing to a thriving lahui.
Data and Research
Hale ‘Imi Hawai‘i is the data and research center of Papa Ola Lōkahi.
The department is charged with the perpetuation of E Ola Mau – Native Hawaiian Health Needs Assessment and other such legacy projects as Nā Leo Kaiāulu – Community Voices and Wili I Lei Lanakila – Native Hawaiian Scoping Project. We investigate social and cultural determinants of Hawaiian health, and analyze data to help inform policy and program development. We participate in numerous data committees and advisory bodies.
Health Workforce
Mauli Ola Mālamalama’s mākia, or purpose, is to support and facilitate the continued development of Native Hawaiian Health Professionals to increase the economic prosperity for the Native Hawaiian community.
Hawaiian Health Policy
Hale Mana‘o Ho‘okō works on federal, state, and local advocacy and policy issues to understand governmental affairs, represent Papa Ola Lōkahi appropriately, and monitor and promote health efforts guided by the federal trust responsibilities for Native Hawaiians.
Corporate Communications
Hale o Lono assures community recognition of Papa Ola Lokahi, the Native Hawaiian Health Scholarship Program, and the Native Hawaiian Health Care Systems, as well as an easily accessible online clearinghouse of resources, publications, news and information.
